  5. This file is distributed with each release of the Zetafax software, and
  6. contains up to date information of changes in this release, to supplement
  7. the user manual.

  10. Using Zetafax with Windows NT

  17. Compatibility issues with other software
  18. -------------------------------------------------------------------------

  20. 1.  Windows for Workgroups 3.11
  21.  
  22.     If you have upgraded from a previous version of Zetafax and are 
  23.     running Windows for Workgroups version 3.11, you may experience 
  24.     timeout problems when sending faxes.  This is due to a compatibilty 
  25.     problem with early versions of the Windows communications port 
  26.     driver COMM.DRV.  Ensure that the line 
  27.  
  28.     IgnoreCTS: YES
  29.  
  30.     is present in the [FCLASS-n] paragraph of the Zetafax system 
  31.     configuration file SETUP.INI, located in the zfax\SYSTEM\Z-DB 
  32.     directory.

  35. 2.  WordPerfect 5.1 for Windows can corrupt WIN.INI file
  36.  
  37.     WordPerfect for Windows version 5.1 does not handle printing to a
  38.     file correctly when a long path name is given in the WIN.INI file.
  39.     This is the method used when printing to the Zetafax printer when
  40.     not installed with the default setting of storing print spool 
  41.     files in the Windows directory.
  42.  
  43.     If the path name is too long then WordPerfect does not print the 
  44.     file and can also corrupt the WIN.INI file.  If you are having 
  45.     problems printing from WordPerfect to the Zetafax printer then you 
  46.     should run the WKSETUP program and change the spool directory using 
  47.     the Advanced Settings option to either the Windows directory, or
  48.     to the root directory on the PC's local disk.

  50.     WordPerfect 5.2 and 6.0 have this problem corrected.

  53. 3.  Changing paper size in Word for Windows 2.0
  54.  
  55.     Word for Windows version 2.0 does not notify printers of the paper
  56.     size which it wishes to use.  Therefore when using Word with the
  57.     Zetafax printer you should ensure that the paper size configured
  58.     in printer setup agrees with Word's page setup size.
  59.  
  60.     Word 6.0 has this problem corrected.

  63. 4.  Use with Sun PC NFS
  64.  
  65.     PC NFS uses a special character in file names to identify Unix
  66.     files with names longer than the standard DOS 8+3 format.
  67.     By default this is the tilda character '~'.  If you create a
  68.     file on a PC whose name contains this character, then do a
  69.     DIR, the file has a different name (eg "~TEST000.TMP" gets
  70.     stored as "~TEST~RA.TMP").
  71.  
  72.     Zetafax uses file names which contain tilda characters, and
  73.     therefore does not work correctly when PC NFS changes the
  74.     file names in this manner.    You can correct the problem by
  75.     telling NFS to use another character (eg '%').  This is done
  76.     by modifying the line which loads PCNFS.SYS in the CONFIG.SYS
  77.     file on each PC, adding a parameter "/C%" to the end - eg
  78.  
  79.     Device = C:\NFS\PCNFS.SYS /C%

  82. 5.  Background printing in Microsoft Word 6.0
  83.  
  84.     When you print to the Zetafax printer from an application
  85.     Zetafax waits until printing has finished before displaying
  86.     the addressing dialog box, in case the file being printed
  87.     contains any automatic addressing commands.
  88.  
  89.     With most applications this means that the addressing dialog
  90.     is displayed immediately the application's "Printing page nnn"
  91.     message box is removed.  However Word 6.0 (and some other
  92.     applications) performs printing in the background, giving
  93.     just a small visual indication on the status bar to say that it
  94.     is in progress.

  96.     With Word 6.0, background printing to the Zetafax printer is
  97.     now disabled.  If you install Word after installing Zetafax,
  98.     you should run the Zetafax Workstation Setup program and
  99.     choose the "update programs" option to make this change.

  102. 6.  Using automatic addressing commands with WordPerfect 5.1
  103.  
  104.     Faxes may be addressed automatically by including special
  105.     commands in the text of the fax (eg "%%[FAX:1234]"), using one
  106.     of the Zetafax fonts.  This is not currently supported under
  107.     WordPerfect 5.1 (as it prints each character of the command
  108.     individually).  This will be corrected in a future maintenance
  109.     release - please contact Equisys for details.
